In f...Yes, theft is all around us here in America. In fact, it's so prevalent that most people here don't even see it anymore. I keep trying to point out to my close circle of friends that America has lost it's foundation as a republic, that the banks and giant corporations are now actually running politics and that We The People have no say anymore. Nothing more clearly demonstrated this than when Congress was debating the $700 billion bailout of the banks. Letters from constituents were pouring in at 50:1 against the bailout, yet it still passed. Why can't people here see what just happened and that their outcries to elected representatives fell on deaf ears?

EVERYONE I speak to about America's financial plight clings to the hope of Obama. They fail to look into who he is appointing to his cabinet and where they come from philosophically. As long as Obama is doing it, everything will be okay they muse. I want to throw up when I hear them talk this way.

I'm sure glad they all have hope, because I have NONE anymore. My friends don't want to see that Clinton's presidency was just as damaging, albeit in different ways, as Bush's was. Clinton put the nail in our manufacturing coffin with NAFTA and my democratic friends fail to see the impact of this disastrous legislation. Now, all they can see is Obama coming to the rescue. Quick, where's my barf bag?

I wish my friends would open their eyes to all of this, but they just cling to their hope. I suppose that's less work than plugging in and getting involved.
LailaFirefemhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10608730369996454378noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-31199877.post-19401027209942480842008-12-13T17:54:00.000-05:002008-12-13T17:54:00.000-05:00I just noticed that the head of Merill Lynch was a...I just noticed that the head of Merill Lynch was asking for a $10 million bonus but I believe was faced down by some politician. Regardless of the details, that CEO clearly didn't see it as theft to ask for the $10 million and until he and others do then there is no hope.

So I think the theft argument you are making is a strong one. It doesn't matter if it happens to be legal, it is still theft and the society has to call it as such and see the legality not as a justification but as a reason to change the laws.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
